Flagpole Photographers Camera Club

Newtown, Connecticut  USA

Welcome to the Flagpole Photographers web site.  Our season runs September through June.  We meet monthly on the third Thursday at 7:30 PM at Cyrenius H. Booth Library in Newtown, CT.

Each meeting has a print or slide competition for an assigned subject.  Meetings with print competitions also have a presentation by a guest speaker.  On slide competition nights, each entry is critiqued by a guest judge.

We hold an annual member's exhibit and competition each spring.

Guests are always welcome.  You must be a member to enter club competitions.

Next meeting:  June 19, 2008

Subject: "Farms/Barns"  (Prints)

Speaker: Ken Graff

Program: "Digital Wizardry:  the Art of Sharing Your Pictures"

Program Description:

With the advent of digital photography, photographers are taking more
pictures than ever. Most of those images are confined to their hard
drives, never to be seen. The digital shooter has to think outside "the
print" to make the most of their digital creations.  This presentation
will show how to use free software and resources readily available on
the Internet to organize and correct images, and then share them with
friends and family. The audience will gain knowledge of how to create
digital photo albums, slide shows, scrapbooks, animations, special
effects, and more!  The Internet is an important tool to the 21st
century photographer, discover how to use it.

Announcements:

  • The club will take family portraits at the Reed School fundraiser for the photos/pen pal student exchange with Ghana children.  The event will be June 18 and we will need participation from several members.  More to come as we near the date.

  • The competition subjects for the 2008-2009 season are posted in the schedule section of the web site. The schedule is incomplete in terms of programs, speakers etc. however you can get started today working on your submissions for the new season!

A call for images from all members for:

Newtown 2008 Yearbook in Pictures

Think of this as a photojournalism history of Newtown in 2008.  While we want some landscape photos of the town, the major emphasis should be on the people, their work, their activities, their fun and life in general.

1.) Edit and crop all photos.

2.) Choose the best photo of the subjects(s) you have taken.

3.) Send a high resolution JPEG file to Don Brooks.

4.) Write a caption for the image.

5.) Supply your name the way you want it printed in the book.

6.) Note the date the photo was taken.
